Businesses under AED 50 million: your e-invoicing dates and how to use the months you have

The first deadline has passed for larger businesses, but smaller ones still have until 31 March 2027 to appoint a provider. Here is what the Federal Tax Authority says and how to prepare.

With the 30 October deadline behind us, attention turns to businesses with revenue below AED 50 million. The Federal Tax Authority's notice of 25 October 2026 sets out their dates: appoint an Accredited Service Provider no later than 31 March 2027, and implement the e-invoicing system no later than 1 July 2027.

The same notice says the penalty for delay is AED 5,000 for each month or part of a month, and that this includes failing to appoint a provider on time. A separate Ministry of Finance announcement of 30 October 2026 says a new Cabinet Decision replaces Cabinet Decision No. 106 of 2025. Under it, the penalty is AED 5,000 for the first violation and AED 5,000 for each further month or part month, capped at AED 50,000 in any twelve consecutive months. The two pages describe the amounts differently, and the Ministry's page does not state an effective date or say which businesses the decision applies to, so check the official text for your own case.

Five months is enough time if you start now. A sensible order of work:

  • Check which side of the AED 50 million line your revenue falls, because it decides your dates.
  • List the systems that produce and receive invoices: accounting software, ERP, point of sale, and any spreadsheets.
  • Clean your customer and supplier records, especially tax registration numbers and addresses, since invoices are only as accurate as the data behind them.
  • Decide who in your team owns the project, and who will approve invoices that fail validation.
  • Talk to your accountant or IT adviser early about how your current system will connect.
  • Follow the correct procedures on EmaraTax, as the Authority's notice advises.

Nothing here changes your dates, and no new deadline for smaller businesses was announced this week. For a UAE business below AED 50 million, the practical point is that 31 March 2027 is the date to appoint a provider, so use the coming months to prepare rather than waiting for the final weeks.
